Is your company changing and you don’t know what to do?
Do you want to change something, but don’t know where to start? This is our tip #2 on how to handle change and yet make an impact!
Enhance your proactivity level. Being proactive is easier than resisting. What?! But why? You might say, it is counterintuitive to be more proactive when change is happening. But imagine a stormy sea. How favourable is the outcome going to be if you sit and do nothing? So below are some ways in which you could be proactive and make an impact when change is happening. It is about taking personal responsibility for your success despite the external factors, because if you can’t change the circumstances change perspective and understand that you have a choice of how and if to act. It is quite empowering if you think about it!
Being proactive allows you to maintain a degree of control. Think about the areas you can control and the ones you can't. Focusing on the ones you can easily influence you can decide how you will adapt your work addressing the changing environment. This way you will have the advantage of choosing the areas which feel most comfortable to be changed. You proactively show initiative and jump on board focusing on your area of responsibility.
Focusing on the future rather than dwelling on the discomfort of the present. Additionally, try to focus on the future, rather than on how uncomfortable the changing situation may be in the present. Envisage a positive project outcome as a result of your actions.
Think big picture, i.e. how can you contribute to the change in a positive way. Think big picture and how you can help the business make better decisions. For instance, say that with the introduction of the new processes the number of your projects has doubled. Is there a way to conduct them differently in a more efficient, agile way? Because having more projects doesn’t necessarily mean more work. There are tools which can help optimise the processes and ultimately result in making better decisions faster.
